How does an ROV work?

Veelgestelde vragen

  • Where is the ROV vehicle made of?

    The underwater ROV drone is made from various materials. These are the most common:

    • Aluminium
    • Carbon fiber
    • Iron
  • How does the ROV open and close?

    What is the patented Pitching System? There’s a reason our ROVs are spherical; we use an internal semicircular frame to house the batteries and electronics for the ROV, which is connected to the outer shell. When the ROV is in the water, gravity holds the internal semicircular weighted frame in place. We then activate a servo motor, allowing the outer shell to rotate a full 180° with our main thrusters. This is what our patented “pitching system” does, providing unlimited maneuverability to navigate the ROV through tight spaces. The camera is independently mounted, so it can rotate a full 270 degrees, likely in the direction the ROV is heading.

  • How is it powered?

    We have designed a fully portable system by placing lithium-ion batteries in both the ROV and the controller. With this internal system, you don’t need to bring an external power supply!

  • Do you want to make ROV video recordings? Can I connect to larger monitors? What is the video quality? Can I live stream the footage?

    Deep Trekker ROVs record high-definition videos and eight-megapixel photos onto an SD card located in the handheld controller. The controller also features HDMI, Ethernet, and USB outputs that can be used to display the video on larger monitors, laptops, or for live streams. The footage can be live-streamed through internet-connected devices using broadcasting software.

  • What sensors are on the drone?

    In addition to the integration of potential failures, the following are included as standard equipment on one of our ROVs:

    • Heading (compass);
    • Depth;
    • Water temperature;
    • Pitch (drone angle; vertical);
    • Roll (drone angle; horizontal);
    • Camera angle;
    • Battery level.
